No 1 Richest Man in Africa 'Aliko Dangote'
Aliko Dangote is an entrepreneur
and owner of several businesses in Africa. His businesses serve as a means of
livelihood to many individuals. He is an influencer of several upcoming
entrepreneurs and young businesses in Nigeria and Africa as a whole. He is
recognised all over the world as a wealthy and successful businessman. His name
was listed as one of the richest men in Forbes magazine and occupies the first
position in Forbes Africa’s billionaires.
Dangote’s sources of wealth are
mainly cement, sugar and flour. He is worth 12.1 billion dollars and age 60. He
was born on 10th April 1957 and hails from Kano state. His
businesses span several African countries including Nigeria, South Africa,
Togo, Ghana, Cameroun, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia. Dangote
at one time said “I can remember when I was in primary school, I would go and
buy cartons of sweets (sugar boxes) and I would start selling them just to make
money’.
Dangote group began operation in
1977 as a local trading firm and he eventually moved to Lagos to take his
business to the next level. The small Dangote group has now become a
multinational conglomerate of businesses all over Africa. He plans to invest
close to 700 million dollars into sugar processing and also to acquire world
renowned football club arsenal, he has received several awards in his lifetime
including AAI award 2016 and trade union congress award.
